Tales of Common Insanity by Petr Zelenka

October 22 through November 18, 2012

Brief Synopsis: A family coming apart, their neighbors and friends create an absurdest enclave in a post-communist world defined by the old marzist-tinged newspeak, sexual perversity, and a peculiar strain of mental disjunction. This 'Seinfield in Prague' comedy uses terse short sentences to present a unique European style of dialog to create a powerful undertow.
Playwright's Bio: Born August 21, 1967 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He is an award winning Czech playwright and director of theatre and film. His films have been recognized at international festivals in Moscow and Rotterdam. in 2008 his film Karamazovi was the Czech republic's official osca submission for Best Foreign Film.

Tales of Common Insanity (2004) received the Alfred Radok award for best play and has been staged in Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Germany. In 2005 it was made into a film entitled Wrong Side Up.

Why We Are
Theatrical Mining Company was founded by Barry Feinstein (Artistic Director), Roger Marshall, and Terry Kenney (Playwright Relations) in late summer of 2006 to develop Baltimore Playwrights Festival entries that were not selected for production, and new play ideas.
TMC favors plays that make a strong statement about the human condition, and embraces controversial subjects. We believe the purpose of theatre is to inspire an audience to think and discuss the subject matter presented on stage. Of course, we like to have some laughter along the way.

We want to thank Fells Point Corner Theater for all the help and use of their space during development.
